Polyclinic opened by Darzi

London’s first polyclinic, the Loxford Polyclinic in Redbridge, was recently opened at an official ceremony by Lord Darzi. The facility is the first in a new generation of multi-purpose health centres that will offer communities a comprehensive range of health services, as outlined in Lord Darzi’s Next Stage Review.

Patients to the polyclinic will benefit from a range of services designed to make care more accessible and closer to the community.  To meet its needs in general X-ray, the clinic has installed an Axiom Multix M digital radiography system, from Siemens Healthcare. Other offerings will include blood tests, echocardiograms and ultrasound scans.

Abdul-Karim Conteh, deputy radiology resource manager at Barking, Havering & Redbridge University Hopsitals NHS Trust (BHRUT), said:  “Not only will people have more convenient access to services, but this facility will also reduce the number of hospital visits, thus easing pressure on secondary and tertiary care providers.”
