Collaboration announced for International Surgical Congress

The Association of Surgeons of Great Britain and Ireland (ASGBI) has announced its collaboration with the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (RCSEd) and Surgeons Quarter for the ASGBI International Surgical Congress.

RCSEd and Surgeons Quarter will be Gold Sponsors of this year’s flagship surgical event, which will take place 12th–14th May 2025, in Edinburgh.

The main Congress will be hosted at the Edinburgh International Conference Centre (EICC), while pre-congress courses will be held at Surgeons Quarter on 11th May, offering invaluable hands-on training and didactic teaching in areas such as Laparoscopic Skills in Emergency Surgery (LSES), Minimally Invasive Acute Care Surgery with the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES) and Humanitarian Surgery with the David Nott Foundation. The College is also hosting a pre-congress dinner in the stunning Playfair Library where historic journals provide a fitting backdrop.

Beyond the Congress, this collaboration extends into the wider community. ASGBI and RCSEd are committed to inspiring the next generation of surgeons, with RCSEd supporting ASGBI’s visit to schools in Edinburgh to promote surgery as an exciting and rewarding career choice.

ASGBI President, Mr. Christian Macutkiewicz, commented: "This partnership with RCSEd and Surgeons Quarter exemplifies our shared commitment to excellence in surgical education and training. The 2025 Congress will not only showcase cutting-edge advancements but also reinforce the importance of tradition, mentorship, and inspiring future generations."

President of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and former ASGBI President, Professor Rowan Parks, added: "ASGBI and RCSEd have a long-standing relationship, and this collaboration strengthens our joint mission to advance surgical practice. Hosting key elements of the Congress at Surgeons Quarter and supporting outreach initiatives highlights our dedication to both innovation and the future of our profession."
