Blood pressure cuffs help reduce HAIs

Blood pressure cuffs are used daily on patients on hospital wards, but despite routine disinfection measures, still pose a potential cross-contamination risk with a recent study showing that 97% of samples showed contamination.

In a bid to help fight this problem, WELCH ALLYN has developed a new range of FlexiPort blood pressure cuffs to help reduce the number of healthcareacquired infections (HAIs) in hospitals. At admission, each patient can be allocated one correctly-sized disposable FlexiPort Cuff. This cuff stays with the patient for the duration of their hospital stay, enabling them to move throughout the different departments without the need for previously-worn cuffs to be attached to the patient in order to take readings. In addition to the benefits of increasing the accuracy of blood pressure readings due to accurate cuff sizing, there is less risk of cross-contamination from a soiled cuff, so the chance of spreading infection is reduced.
