In the complex and ever-evolving landscape of healthcare, the emphasis on patient and healthcare worker safety has become increasingly paramount. September’s World Patient Safety Day serves as a poignant reminder of the importance of these issues. To mark this occasion, we delve into the work of the Association of British HealthTech Industries (ABHI) Patient Safety Group.
The ABHI is an industry association for health technology (HealthTech). Members, including large multinationals and small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs), supply products and services from syringes and wound dressings to in vitro diagnostics, surgical robots, and the delivery of remote care. The sector partners with the health and care system to save and enhance lives.
Within ABHI, there are a number of member-led networks that address key issues impacting the sector and the healthcare services. This includes the ABHI Patient Safety Group, a cohort that is instrumental in identifying and implementing HealthTech innovations that enhance the safety of patients, healthcare workers and carers.
The group includes a diverse membership drawn from across the world of medical devices, diagnostics and digital health, ensuring a holistic and comprehensive approach to safety that transcends specific domains. By collaborating closely with the NHS and other key players in the healthcare ecosystem, the group supports the implementation of the NHS Patient Safety Strategy, aiming to make safety innovations both accessible and effective.
