ABHI visit to Florida aims to strengthen HealthTech trade and innovation partnerships

The Association of British HealthTech Industries (ABHI) is set to welcome several of the UK’s leading HealthTech innovators on a major trade visit to Florida this week, as part of its flagship US Accelerator programme.

Taking place from June 11 to 18, the visit will gather a select group of the UK’s most innovative companies to showcase the excellence of the UK’s HealthTech industry and explore collaborative opportunities in Florida, one of the top three most innovative states in the US.

The week-long visit will introduce members to leaders across dynamic ecosystems, including hospital systems, accelerators, business chambers, and professional service companies in Orlando, Miami, and Tampa – three of the state's major cities.

Throughout the week, the cohort of leading UK companies will showcase a range of cutting-edge products and solutions to the US market. They will meet with senior leadership from some of the state’s largest hospital systems, including The Moffitt Cancer Center, Jackson Health and Cleveland Clinic. Additionally, they will engage with group purchasing organisations (GPOs), distributors, investors, and procurement teams.

The visit will offer an array of engagement opportunities with organisations such as Orlando Economic Partnership, Center for Advanced Medical Learning and Simulation (CAMLS) & University of Miami School of Medicine. These partnerships will facilitate networking opportunities, knowledge exchange and access to critical resources crucial for success in the US.

Paul Benton, Managing Director, International, ABHI commented: “The amazing atmosphere of welcome and support is a key reason why Florida is such an exciting HealthTech destination for UK companies to do business. We are delighted to return to this wonderful state with a fresh cohort of UK innovators ready and eager to collaborate, showcase the brilliance of the UK, and create a bridge between two dynamic hubs of HealthTech excellence.”

Florida is home to the third largest concentration of healthcare providers in the US. With advanced research capabilities, a collaborative environment and pro-business climate, the state’s health care and life sciences industries are growing at a record pace.

The State is home to world-renowned universities, state-of-the-art medical centres, award-winning incubators and research parks, innovative institutes and a wide array of pioneering start up and successful established companies. This includes globally renowned corporations such as Bristol Myers Squibb, Johnson & Johnson, Amgen, and Pfizer, with the Tampa area housing world-class local institutions such as the Moffitt Cancer Center.

The visit – exclusive to members of the ABHI US Accelerator – will provide a prime opportunity for members to explore the strengths and capabilities the region boasts in life sciences while forging meaningful partnerships with healthcare leaders, offering advice, mentorship and guidance to help build and de-risk their US market access strategy.

A total of 20 companies from the world of health technology are taking part in this year’s cohort. Together they constitute a diverse mix of medical device, diagnostics and digital health businesses, several of which are long-standing members of the programme, along with a host of new entrants.

The programme for the 2024 ABHI US Accelerator is sponsored by leading international legal firm DAC Beachcroft (DACB), and leading legal and business consulting firm, Wilson Sonsini.
