Professor Jennie Wilson, from the Richard Wells research Centre, University of West London, will explore the pathogenesis of surgical site infection and factors that increase the risk of its occurrence. In particular, this webinar will focus on the role of surgical skin antisepsis, the principles underpinning their action and the evidence for the efficacy of different agents.
About the speaker
Professor Wilson has an international reputation as an expert in infection prevention and control (IPC) and is a past President of the Infection Prevention Society. She has worked in the field for 40 years, as an IPC specialist in large acute NHS Trusts, a consultant epidemiologist and research academic.
Professor Wilson established the Surgical Site Infection Surveillance Service at Public Health England in the 1990s, managed its development for the following 15 years, and supported hospitals to understand and improve their rates of SSI. She was a founder member of the OneTogether partnership which has developed resources to support the prevention of SSI for the last decade.
She has also been a lead author on numerous systematic evidence reviews that underpin national guidelines on preventing healthcare associated infections including the Epic guidelines published in 2014.
