Antimicrobial catheter dressing

With MRSA bacteraemia rates hovering around 1,000 cases per quarter (HPA report: April 2008) the need to prevent hospital acquired infection, in particular, catheter related bloodstream Infections, is greater than ever. This objective could be made easier with the launch of a new infection control product from PLIVA.

Utilising the broad antimicrobial efficacy of ionic silver (proven to inhibit the growth of over 650 different species of bacteria, fungi, and viruses) and calcium alginates to ensure its uniform and sustained delivery, Zonex is an antimicrobial catheter dressing designed to protect access sites from infection that can arise through the routine use of percutaneous medical devices.

Using Ionic Silver as the active antimicrobial ensures clinical effectiveness for up to seven days without the problem of emerging resistance, a major factor when prescribing antimicrobials. Available in two sizes, Zonex is designed to cover a wide variety of medical devices – including IV cannula, PICCs, CVCs, epidural catheters and supra-pubic catheters.
