The Association for Perioperative Practice (AfPP) has announced that the newest appointment to the AfPP Board of Trustees is Nadiene Deane. Nadiene was voted in by the AfPP electorate of nearly 7,000 perioperative practitioners to take a position on the Board as an Elected Trustee. Nadiene will join the AfPP Board of Trustees in January 2023.
Commenting on the appointment, Dawn Stott, AfPP Chief Executive Officer, said: “We are delighted by the decision of our members and we look forward to welcoming Nadiene to the Board. As an association, it is imperative that we have a wide range of knowledge and experience on the Board to ensure that we accurately represent our members when making decisions on their behalf. The future of the organisation will no doubt benefit from Nadiene’s fresh perspective.”
Nadiene Deane commented: “I am keen to support the development of AfPP’s long-term strategy by taking a more active role in upholding the vision, mission and values which very much align with my own. It would be both a welcomed opportunity and an honour to sit on the board of trustees and share and develop my own skills whilst positively contributing to the future of perioperative practice.”
AfPP is the UK’s leading membership organisation dedicated to theatre practitioners. Its aim is to help practitioners develop skills and keep their knowledge up to date, as well as improving patient care and safety.
AfPP works to encourage the exchange of professional information between members and co-operation with other professional bodies. These include the Departments of Health in the UK, the Perioperative Care Collaborative, the Medical Royal Colleges, Chief Nursing Officers (CNOs) of all four member countries, Skills for Health and many of the British Safety Institution Committees and other groups set up to discuss specific issues related to perioperative care.
Nadiene qualified as an Operating Department Practitioner in 2014 having built her career in the perioperative setting. After gaining invaluable experience in the NHS, Nadiene moved into the private sector. As a continuous champion for high standards of care, Nadiene progressed through the roles of Team Lead and Clinical Coordinator into her current role of Deputy Theatre Manager. In this latest role, Nadiene assisted in leading the team to achieve full marks in AfPP Accreditation.
With a passion for Patient Safety, Nadiene has a keen interest in Human Factors and the relationship between perioperative team culture and patient experience. She's also passionate about talent recognition and development, strongly advocating that competent, confident staff create a safe perioperative environment, and believes that effective staff engagement and development can improve both patient safety and experience.
