Surgical Holdings will be exhibiting at the Association for Perioperative Practice (AfPP) Annual Conference 2022 to raise awareness of their accredited training programme which highlights how to test the quality of rigid endoscopes, identify faults and ensure patient safety.
At this year’s AfPP Annual Conference, Surgical Holdings – a British manufacturer and repairer of medical devices – will be offering conference attendees the chance to develop skills and integrate CPD accredited training, in order to help them better manage these important and valuable assets.
The company has developed a standard operating procedures (SOP) training programme, which can be easily incorporated into internal Quality Management Systems, in order to assist theatres and sterile services departments in identifying the different faults routinely seen in the handling of rigid endoscopes, without the need for expensive endoscope checking apparatus.
Dan Coole, Managing Director of Surgical Holdings explains: “These simple tests can be used to check and improve the quality and condition of rigid endoscopes, which are reused every day in hospitals.”
“Increased understanding of what can go wrong with endoscopes – which are routinely subjected to harsh conditions – and how to test them to identify, and repair defects, will assist surgeons to detect problems before surgery and ensure the safety of patients is not compromised. An endoscope used during only one procedure, typically will be handled by a minimum of six people.”
Surgical Holdings will also be offering delegates at this year’s show, a chance to book into a tour of its new Rigid Endoscope Repair workshop, based in Southend-on-Sea.
All major brands of rigid endoscope can be repaired at Surgical Holdings’ workshop. The family-run business – whose highly-skilled technicians (with over 25 years experience) return scopes to the manufacturer’s original specification, utilise the latest technologies in optical repair. These include laser welding, construction of fibre bundles with the highest quality German materials and the latest soldering techniques to ensure optimum repair and clinical standards.
The tour will allow visitors to gain exclusive insights into the company’s expert repair, refurbishment and manufacturing service, allowing them to learn more about the technology, expertise and rigorous processes that go behind ensuring the quality of every instrument and repair.
The Association for Perioperative Practice Annual Conference is the UK’s leading association for perioperative practitioners. Surgical Holdings first exhibited back in 2010. Taking place at the University of York from 8-11 September 2022, the event is set to be one of the largest gatherings of theatre practitioners in the professional calendar.
The conference brings together over 500 perioperative practitioners to participate in a packed programme of education, workshops and networking opportunities that are designed to inform, challenge and inspire the participants.
