Diagnostic waiting times reduced

Waiting times for key diagnostic tests have been significantly reduced at Musgrove Park Hospital in Taunton. The maximum wait for plain film X-rays, CT scans, Dexa scans and MRI scans is now no more than three weeks, with many patients being seen sooner.

Ultrasound scans are now completed within six weeks and the hospital is introducing additional capacity to reduce this further. Just 12 months ago the average waiting time for these tests was far higher, with patients having to wait 23 weeks for an MRI scan, 18 weeks for a CT, 17 for ultrasound and eight weeks for plain film X-ray and Dexa.

Deputy divisional general manager, Andy Burgess, said: “We know that patients do not want to be kept waiting and our staff have done a superb job in achieving this dramatic reduction in waiting times. This has been achieved through increased capacity, extended opening hours and streamlined processes to reduce waste and get rid of unnecessary delay.

We are determined to get to the position where everyone is seen within two weeks.”
