Saving clinical time and reducing waiting times

Waiting times for medical admissions have been reduced by 34% at Bolton NHS Foundation Trust following the implementation of a new clinically-led digital solution.

The electronic acute medical list has dramatically reduced waiting times for clinical review and is contributing to a projected operational saving of more than £3 million.

Clinicians at Bolton NHS Foundation Trust have dramatically reduced patient waiting times, decreased hospital length of stay and improved patient safety after developing an electronic acute medical list solution to manage patient referrals. The configuration was initially set-up to track referrals and admissions to the Acute Medicine Unit (AMU) Team from multiple sources. Operationally, the solution is contributing towards a projected annual saving in excess of £3 million. The solution will now also be deployed to other teams that manage acute admissions across the Trust.

Bolton NHS Foundation Trust implemented the Allscripts Sunrise Electronic Patient Record (EPR) in October 2019, with the ambition to provide a full EPR as quickly and effectively as possible. While some Trusts select a slower, more modular implementation, Bolton opted for the full suite, rolling-out all modules to all inpatient departments in a single activation.
