Pill reduces ovarian cancer risk

A study conducted by the Collaborative Group on Epidemiological Studies of Ovarian Cancer has indicated that the contraceptive pill offers women substantial long-term protection against the disease.

The protection is believed to last more than 30 years after a woman has stopped taking the pill, according to a report in The Lancet. Using the pill for more than 10 years is claimed to reduce the risk of developing ovarian cancer before the age of 75 from 12 per 1,000 women to 8 per 1,000.
