Survey: understanding the impact of COVID-19 on perioperative teams

The Association for Perioperative Practice (AfPP) has launched a survey to improve understanding of the impact of the Pandemic within perioperative teams.

A survey at the end of 2020, the Association for Perioperative Practice (AfPP), highlighted concerns that poor communication in the operating theatre and within the operating team is compromising patient safety.  The Harrogate-based charity puts patient and staff safety at the heart of all they do and as a result of these findings, now wants to find out more about the impact of the COVID-19 Pandemic on both staff wellbeing and patient safety in the perioperative environment.

Dawn Stott, CEO at AfPP said: “At AfPP we take patient outcomes very seriously. We have been speaking to members about their experiences and the enormous challenges and pressures that they are facing.  Many healthcare professionals are experiencing occupational burnout and fatigue from the increased stress caused by the COVID-19 Pandemic. Resilience, the ability to manage change, teamwork and support will all be key to helping healthcare workers get through the pressures ahead.”

AfPP’s mission is to improve standards of care and patient safety within the perioperative enivonment by determining correct standards and promoting best practice, facilitating education and practice development, providing professional support services for perioperative practitioners, providing a forum for partnership with industry and shaping healthcare policy in the UK.

Those working within the perioperative environment and associated areas are invited to provide their honest thoughts and feedback via the online survey at https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/TZT92NK until 26 March.

AfPP has ensured responses will be kept completely anonymous so that theatre practitioners can communicate their experiences and concerns honestly.
