Protected needles reduce injury risk

Gambro Hospal claims to have the answer to the continued high incidence of needlestick injuries in the healthcare arena. The company’s new “special protected” Plume SP fistula needles have an in-built system to protect users from needlestick injuries. They are increasingly popular among informed renal units.

Plume SP fistula needles are non-invasive and convenient to use in patients with blood-borne pathogens, since only one hand is needed. A specifically designed sharp-edged bevel and highly polished metal needle gives a smooth and painless puncture, while a large and ergonomic wing design allows for an easy grip and thus excellent puncture accuracy. The arterial needle features an oval vent which eliminates tissue damage on insertion and optimises flow. A Y-connector bonded to the hub of the needle minimises turbulence and recirculation.
