By working with their Spanish partners Matachana, LTE have announced a method of decontamination which could ease the excessive shortages of FFP2 masks in the UK.
Following a study by The Dutch National Institute for Public Health and Environment (RIVM) it has been established that “in times of scarcity FFP2 masks can be used three times when sterilized twice with hydrogen peroxide in between use.” https://www.rivm.nl/en/documenten/reuse-of-ffp2-masks. The study shows that when cellulose free FFP2 masks are sterilised on a fast cycle at 60oC with hydrogen peroxide they retain their structural and filter integrity to maintain an acceptable level of protection during a fit test for up to two cycles, enabling 3 uses per mask.
