West Midlands Academic Health Science Network (WMAHSN) welcomed over 100 local school children to its WM Young Life Event, to teach them about the importance of wellbeing and inspire them to consider a career in healthcare.
As part of Birmingham Tech Week, the event saw pupils from Solihull Academy, Holyhead School, Erdington Academy and many more taking part in a variety of interactive workshops.
The one day event offered young people the opportunity to learn about ground-breaking health technology, the importance of wellness and potential healthcare career paths.
WMAHSN and attending local organisations held a variety of workshops, demonstrations and hands-on sessions to get young people feeling excited about health science.
The Tech Zone showcased a line-up of Birmingham-based innovative health technologies, including a virtual reality demo from the Institute of Coding.
The Wellbeing Zone urged young people to take an open and honest approach to their health, with positive mental health workshops from Forward Thinking Birmingham and interactive sessions from Sport Birmingham.
There was also a Careers Zone offering advice on how to kickstart a career in healthcare and science, featuring talks from Birmingham City University and tech-led organisation, PWC.
Tammy Holmes, innovation exchange lead at WMAHSN, commented on the success of the event: “We’re delighted that the WM Young Life Event was such a fun and informative day. We hope that we’ve educated these enthusiastic and bright children on the importance of health and wellbeing.
“We believe it’s so important to help educate and inspire young people at school so we can strive to boost health and innovation across the region.
“I hope that we’ve inspired young people across the West Midlands, and potentially paved the way for the future generation of digital health innovators.”
The event featured a variety of digital health organisations who have been supported by the WMAHSN, including Kaido, Forward Thinking Birmingham and the Institute of Coding.
