The Health Secretary, Matt Hancock has hinted that the Government is seeking legal advice on the introduction of compulsory vaccinations for school aged children.
A number of doctors are in support of such a move, including Dr Jane Woyka, principal GP at Harrow Healthcare Centre (pictured).
Dr Woyka said: “We would fully support a programme of compulsory vaccination if one was initiated by the Health Secretary, Matt Hancock.
“The rise in measles cases is of real concern and places those who are unable to be vaccinated at significant risk. The science is very clear on these types of vaccinations, despite the claims of some people, which have been duly discredited.
“As doctors, we see the impact that measles and other communicable diseases has on the people affected and it is somewhat disheartening that we have had to reach a point, whereby a minister is required to step in to force parents to protect their children and others who are more vulnerable. I am sure I echo the words of most doctors when saying that a move to make vaccines compulsory cannot come soon enough."
