Action® Pressure Management Range Available from Central Medical Supplies

The Action® range of pressure ulcer prevention products are exclusively available in the UK from Central Medical Supplies Ltd (CMS). Action® uses its unique, patented Akton® viscoelastic polymer for its pressure ulcer prevention products.

The Akton® polymer is designed to prevent capillary closure through the redistribution of pressure, mitigate shear forces and reduce the risk of tissue trauma. Akton® is a cost effective, clinically proven latex free composite. It is resistant to infectious growth, as well as being flame and leak resistant.

Action® has been a pioneer of the polymer pressure ulcer management market for over forty years. The Action® range features numerous pads designed for every surgical procedure.  Products include theatre table overlays, head pads, chest rolls, heel supports and paediatric positioners.

Approximately 12 to 25 per cent of patients with a hospital acquired pressure ulcer develop them during surgical procedures. Studies reveal that one in twelve patients undergoing surgical procedures lasting more than three hours will develop postoperative pressure ulcers within four days.  Pressure ulcers produce needless pain and suffering for patients, have a negative impact on the patient’s quality of life and can last for months at a time.

Pressure ulcer management is standard practice in every hospital and there are a number of preventative measures that can be adopted.  There are products that help with pressure relief, along with those for pressure reduction.  Pressure reduction devices lower the interface pressures between tissue and surfaces but do not consistently maintain pressure below the 32mm Hg capillary closure point.  In contrast, pressure relief devices consistently maintain the tissue and interface below 32mm Hg, therefore assuring tissue perfusion at the capillary level.
