Medical compression garments: The benefits

The Clinical Services Journal speaks to Alexander Johnston, general manager at John Bell& Croyden, the world’s only luxury pharmacy, about the benefits of compression garments, and how they are helping millions of people around the world each day.

Compression garments are designed to increase blood and lymphatic flow to a particular part of the body. As well as improving performance and shortening recovery time post-exercise, they also have a wide range of medical benefits including helping with depression, sleep apnoea and offering support post-surgery.

“Compression has really surged in popularity over the last few years as they have so many different uses,” explained Alexander, who manages the royal pharmacy based in The Harley Street Medical Area. The area is owned by the Howard de Walden Estate, one of London’s historic great estates and a highly respected landlord covering an area of 92 acres of central London in which the renowned Harley Street Medical Area is located. Under the long term stewardship of the Estate, this medical cluster maintains a reputation for offering the high levels of medical care and expertise.

In recent years, the Estate has been increasingly active in shaping the area’s clinical offering, carefully identifying those specialisms that could really add something to the mix, seeking out the top players in those areas, and then working with them to provide world class facilities, tailored to their needs.
