Hair loss is a well-known side effect of many chemotherapy regimens, with many patients claiming it is the most traumatic aspect of their treatment. Now, the world’s first scalp cooling research centre is committed to achieving its vision of ‘zero hair loss’ during chemotherapy.
Over the years, scalp cooling specialist, Paxman, has invested heavily in R&D, multi-disciplinary research groups and clinical trials to help improve the efficiency of scalp cooling.
Now, after an eight-year partnership with the University of Huddersfield, the two organisations have embarked on the most ambitious project yet. The Paxman Scalp Cooling Research Centre is a £1 million project that will see the introduction of a multidisciplinary research group at the University of Huddersfield.
Dr Nikolaos Georgopoulos from the Department of Biological Sciences at the university explained what this will mean for patients and clinicians. “The centre will allow both the university and Paxman to establish a long-term, world class research programme that will be productive and generate extensive knowledge,” said Dr Georgopoulos.
