The Theatres & Decontamination Conference 2019 provided delegates with expert insight into helping healthcare professionals work towards a better patient experience and improved quality of care.
NPAG facilitator, Claire Jones-Manning, who worked to achieve an agenda focused on bringing together these two sectors, welcomed delegates – NHS and non-NHS theatres, surgical and decontamination managers and leads – and explained how the conference reflected the feedback from previous year’s delegates, and from the members of the NPAG Operating Theatres and Decontamination BVGs.
Darren Jones, managing director, Low Carbon Europe, opened the talks with his presentation, “Operating theatre energy optimisation and HTM 03-01 audits – what do they entail, and what do they achieve?” Drawing on his experience - Darren is currently undertaking PhD research on the topic of strategic energy management within hospitals – Darren explained how the NHS is under increasing pressure to perform and report on its achievements within the wider Sustainability Development Strategy, in order to reach short-term mandatory carbon reduction targets set for 2020.
