Constructing a theatre for training purposes

A new purpose-built operating theatre has been completed, offering a world-class training and demonstration base for customers to experience Bender UK technology first-hand. The Clinical Services Journalpaid a visit to this remarkable operating theatre demonstration room.

Bender UK, part of the global German owned Bender Group, is sited in the beautiful town of Ulverston, in the Lakeland district of Cumbria. Bender’s first venture into healthcare began when the company worked with the team that developed the electrical wiring standards for healthcare. Together, they were successful in getting medical IT power systems into the standards for operating theatres. That was a pivotal moment for Bender, as it meant that every hospital environment must have medical IT power systems and battery backup. This was the game changer for the company and today, its focus on electrical safety is expanding, thanks to a heritage of more than 65 years.

The new state-of-the-art theatre showroom, which was formally opened by managing director, Gareth Brunton on  5 November 2018, has been constructed in Bender’s Ulverston site to provide a detailed view of how the integrated equipment works within a theatre environment.

The demonstration room is a unique way of showcasing Bender’s range of theatre and clinical equipment, as part of its turnkey healthcare solutions for new build and hospital upgrade programmes. The room is connected to a plant room with medical IT power systems or isolated power system (IPS) and uninterruptible power supply (UPS) to replicate power for group 2 medical locations. This connectivity enables the company to simulate events such as loss of power and shut-down, and to demonstrate how the technology can help in such situations.
