Backing British patient monitoring systems

When it comes to medical devices,‘manufactured in the UK’ is still the ultimate seal of approval. Dr John Sandham,who has been working in the field of healthcare technology management for over 30 years,explains why he will always happily recommend UK-made medical equipment.

Critical patient monitoring systems have always been at the forefront in the field of medical devices, but it is the continuous improvement of these technologies helping simplify and make the process more efficient. 

As newer, exciting products are developed – not only in the medical field, but across manufacturing – more often than not, they are not always being produced in Britain.

Figures, released by the GMB Union in June 2018 claimed the UK has lost almost 600,000 manufacturing jobs in the past decade – falling by 17% between 2007 and 2017, resulting in £2.3billion less being paid in manufacturing wages in real terms. It said every region of the UK has experienced a decline in manufacturing employment.
