The first of this year’s Central Sterilising Club Annual Scientific Meetings takes place at Worsley Park Marriott Hotel & Country Club, Manchester, on 1 and 2 April 2019. The Clinical Services Journal explores what promises to be two days of fascinating debate.
The Central Sterilising Club was founded in 1960 by a small group of enthusiastic individuals who were either working in sterile services departments or were attempting to solve the many problems associated with developing rapid, safe methods for sterilising items in bulk.
he early meetings were chaired by the late Professor Darmady, senior pathologist at Portsmouth, and attended by medical and scientific experts who became involved in the future developments. Many notable figures in the sterilisation field have been, or are, members of the club. The club continues to flourishes and its strength is its multidisciplinary membership, which includes:
The club also has personal members within commercial companies and the companies themselves as corporate members. This mix makes up a unique blend of skill, experience and acknowledged expertise and is involved in all aspects of sterilisation. Several successful national groups have emerged from the club’s membership, including the Institute of Decontamination Science, the Infection Prevention Society and the Hospital Infection Society.
