Endoscopic technology: Driving earlier detection

The latest LED imaging and ergonomic design developments in endoscope technology are among the most significant for a generation according to Dr Bu’Hussain Hayee, clinical lead for gastroenterology at King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.

The impact of these developments is offering real progress for earlier detection, enhanced characterisation and assessment of abnormalities.

While traditionally white light has been the de facto standard for the imaging of soft tissue, a new wave of technologies is emerging that deploys a combination of imaging modalities that allow gastroenterologists to see and detect much more than has been previously possible.

One such example is the breakthrough Eluxeo 7000 system from Fujifilm, which employs 4-LED multi-Light technology, in a bid to enable endoscopists to gain superior visualisation of mucosal surfaces and vessel structures within the gastrointestinal tract.
