The principles of the Lord Darzi interim report were published in the August 2018 edition of CSJ. Kate Woodhead RGB, DMS, concludes by reviewing the thinking involved in his final report.
Earlier in the year, Lord Darzi published an interim report which looked at the NHS 10 years after his ‘High Quality Care for all’ Report and to help the celebrations of the NHS at 70 years. The principles of his interim report were reported in the August 2018 edition of The Clinical Services Journal and here technical editor, Kate Woodhead RGB, DMS, concludes by reviewing the thinking involved in his final report.
Lord Darzi’s final report1 sets out the 10 point plan for what health and care may be able to look like if the investment and reform he sets out is managed and adopted. He also offers a further 10 point plan to the public, so that the money may be used effectively to improve patient outcomes. Lord Darzi suggests that should the plan be accepted in full, then the next 10 years of the NHS will demonstrate a healthier, more prosperous decade of health and care.
He comments that the NHS is the embodiment of the best of our values: compassion and kindness, generosity and reciprocity, underpinned by a profound commitment to fairness and equality. It has been built and sustained by our collective endeavour. He says that people are worried about the state of health and social care governments of all colours have been promising plans for reform of social care for many years, but have failed to produce anything more than reports which have not been implemented.
