Protecting hospitals from cyber-attacks

The National Performance Advisory Group’s (NPAG) annual conference took place at the Ricoh Arena, Coventry, in September. Alec Peachey reports.

The focus was on clinical engineering and IT connectivity at this year’s NPAG annual conference. With a cyber-attack hitting the NHS earlier this year attendees heard about what can be done to mitigate the risks presented by hackers.

The event programme focused on updating staff knowledge about managing and integrating medical devices, IT connectivity to devices and staff behaviour in using systems.

Dr Helen Messe, head of healthcare at the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, opened proceedings with a presentation entitled ‘Engineering solutions for the NHS: Raising the profile of clinical engineers and medical physics’.
