A hand-held ultrasound system is being used by Endovascular surgeons at the Great Western Hospital, in Wiltshire, for assessing vein ablation patients prior to surgery and for guidance during the procedure.
The SonoSite MicroMaxx system provides a clear image of the junctional area ensuring the surgeon does not damage deep vein systems during the ablation.
"I see a large number of patients suitable for vein treatments, such as endovenous laser treatment for varicose veins or radio frequency ablation of varicose veins," said Mr Ravi Singh-Ranger, consultant vascular and endovascular surgeon at the hospital. "It is critical for me to be able to scan and assess each patient to know exactly how dilated the veins are, what the pathology and venous anatomy are, and what treatment the patient requires."
