The Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital NHS Trust (RNOH) at Stanmore has taken a step towards improving patient care by appointing MediHome to provide Care-at-Home type services.
Familiar surroundings, normal sleep patterns and their own food, all combine to speed recovery and the sense of wellbeing. MediHome will provide all the post-operative care including physiotherapy, intravenous drips and replacing dressings. The big plus is that the patient will continue to remain the responsibility of the RNOH.”
Mark Lomax, managing director and founder of the UK based company MediHome said: “Other countries, notably Australia and the USA, have been at the forefront of caring for post-operative patients at home for many years and have developed the technology, processes and systems to make this not only viable, but economically beneficial to all parties. Sleep and appetite are improved and patients also tend to experience less pain when in the familiar and comfortable surroundings of their own home.”
Using the experience of these other countries MediHome has developed a range of Care-at-Home services, based on the best international practices with all the quality controls and clinical standards expected in the UK.
Beyond speeding the patient’s recovery to full fitness the RNOH benefits by reduced waiting lists and freeing up much needed beds. Doctors are able to continually monitor the patient’s condition through a secure Internet connection linked to MediHome’s electronic patient record system. MediHome provides experienced nursing which delivers confidence to the patient, the doctor and the hospital and is therefore a key ingredient to the successful delivery of Care-at-Home type services.
