Improved removal of hair

3M HEALTH CARE has launched a surgical clipper that allows hair removal, while minimising the risk of nicks and cuts.

It can be used for head and body hair, wet or dry and comes in two designs: with a flexible, pivoting head and a fixed head.

Throughout April 2007, 3M is running a special promotion on its surgical clippers. Purchase four boxes of clipper blades and receive a clipper body and charger free of charge, making a considerable saving.

Skin preparation prior to surgery has traditionally included shaving body hair from the surgical site, in the belief that infection would be reduced and to increase visibility of the surgical site.

However, there are a number of published studies that illustrate the detrimental effect shaving has on the skin integrity of the patient, thus increasing the risk of surgical site infection, with nicks and cuts in the skin’s surface providing a breeding ground for bacteria.
