Olympus has completed the first UK installation of its ETD Double endoscope reprocessing unit at Blackpool Victoria Hospital.
ETD Double is the first pass-through washer-disinfector from Olympus who, with the introduction of this product to its endoscope reprocessing portfolio, has now advanced its long tradition of ETD machines, enabling the strict and physical separation of clean from dirty.
The Olympus ETD Double is designed to:
- Optimise endoscopy work flow.
- Provide hygienic results at the highest level.
- Ensure the safety of patients and clinical users.
- Provide simultaneous reprocessing of up to three endoscopes whilst protecting these sensitive and high-tech instruments.
In 2015, endoscope reprocessing at Blackpool Victoria Hospital was taking place in three departments; gastroenterology, ENT and in cardiac theatres. The hospital faced numerous challenges with their reprocessing facilities in these departments, including high throughput (80 procedures a day), low capacity, ageing equipment, continuous water quality issues, and withdrawal of their chemical generator. In order to resolve these challenges, the hospital‘s endoscope washer disinfectors needed to be replaced. In October 2016, Olympus was selected as the preferred partner to build the new reprocessing facility for Blackpool Victoria Hospital.
In December 2016 the redevelopment of the new facilities began and by the end of May 2017, the new centralised decontamination unit went live with an official open day to showcase the project taking place on 1 August 2017.
