Walmsley joins Weston Area Health NHS Trust

Phil Walmsley has been appointed as the new director of operations for Weston Area Health NHS Trust.

A children’s nurse by background, Phil trained as a Registered Sick Children’s Nurse at Great Ormond Street and later specialised in paediatric intensive care.

Responsible for overseeing the day-to-day running of Weston General Hospital and the Trust’s children’s community services, Phil brings a wealth of operational and clinical experience from his previous positions in senior operational roles.

He joins Weston from his most recent role as interim director of operations for Hinchingbrooke NHS Trust in Cambridgeshire, having been the deputy director of operations at the university Hospital of Leicester prior to that.

Speaking about his appointment, he said: “When I came to visit Weston prior to the interview, I really appreciated the warmth of the welcome and the passion that staff have to deliver high quality care. 

“I am really looking forward to working with all the staff to support them improve the care that we offer our patients.”

James Rimmer, chief executive Weston Area Health NHS Trust, added: “Phil will be a tremendous asset to the Board and is already implementing changes to improve our day to day business for the benefit of our patients.

“In addition his background in nursing means that he knows about life on a hospital ward and clinical departments. We are very much looking forward to working with him.”
