The Royal Society of Medicine (RSM), the UK’s largest provider of continuing professional development, has announced changes to its academic structure that will strengthen its medical educational programme.
“The Royal Society of Medicine provides many activities of postgraduate education and professional development,” said Mrs Parkinson. “The changes will see a cohesive and streamlined academic programme with a greater emphasis on developing on-line resources, which will greatly assist the training of UK and overseas-based members.
“We will also continue to provide a comprehensive educational programme to support doctors, dentists and vets, as well as allied health professionals, nurses, health managers, and increasingly, meetings specifically for patients. “In these times of change for junior doctors, the Society will also bolster its programme to support doctors through their Foundation and Specialty years,” Mrs Parkinson added.
Dr Scadding commented that the Royal Society of Medicine was strengthening its regional educational programme and increasing the number of meetings held across the UK.“Thirty meetings are planned in regional centres in 2007 and we plan to raise this further so that the RSM can meet the needs of members and the public throughout the UK,” he said.
The RSM’s education programme will continue to be built on the collaboration of its 55 specialty sections, regional and London conference programme. Work is also underway to develop a new Section of Critical Care and Pain medicine.
