MEDICA: taking a look into the future

The MEDICA 2016 exhibition is set to take place from 14-17 November at the Düsseldorf Messe in Germany. The Clinical Services Journal reports on what you can expect from the event this year.

MEDICA is the World’s largest medical trade fair and offers solutions for the complete workflow of patient treatment. It provides an opportunity to see all of the latest healthcare technology innovations in one place and offers a great opportunity to network and gain insights into the latest thinking across a wide range of medical subject areas.

The event is made up of a series of individual focus areas, including electromedicine/medical technology; laboratory technology/diagnostics; physiotherapy/orthopaedic technology; commodities and consumables; information and communication technology; and medical furniture and specialist furnishings for hospitals and doctors’ offices. Running alongside MEDICA is the COMPAMED trade fair for suppliers of medical technology.

Joachim Schäfer, managing director of Messe Düsseldorf, which will host the MEDICA and COMPAMED events, explains more about the co-location of these two events: “This year’s dual event will demonstrate that the products developed by medical technology suppliers can have a huge impact in terms of delivering better care to patients in hospitals and the community.” MEDICA has identified a trend towards smaller, lower-cost medical devices, with an increasing preference for smart devices which have connectivity options. This requires medical technology companies to source ever more lightweight yet powerful components along with matching energy and data storage systems. Many such solutions will be in evidence at COMPAMED and will be of great interest to the exhibitors at MEDICA.
