The National Performance Advisory Group for the NHS (NPAG) is hosting its annual Clinical Engineering Conference 2016 on 13 September 2016, at the Holiday Inn, Stratford-Upon-Avon. The Clinical Services Journal provides an insight into some of the key highlights from the educational programme, which will focus on the challenges and opportunities for improvement within the sector.

The National Performance Advisory Group (NPAG) was originally established and funded by the Department of Health in 1983 to provide advice and guidance regarding pay/productivity issues for ambulance, ancillary and estates staff. In July 2006, it became a trading division of the East of England Ambulance Service NHS Trust. The organisation’s prime purpose is to provide consultancy services and other support to NHS and public sector managers in the continuous improvement of their services and this focus on improvement will be a key theme throughout the Clinical Engineering conference in 2016. NPAG first established a national EBME group over ten years ago with the aim of improving the delivery of healthcare by “developing, influencing and making recommendations on policy, planning and delivery of clinical engineering services, in line with MHRA guidelines – thus underpinning NHS England, NHSLA and CQC requirements.”
