The Clinical Services Journal speaks to Wendy Kirk, from Queen’s Hospital, and Veolia’s Lorraine Gledhill about the challenges of commissioning a new suite to provide a much improved decontamination service and more importantly maintain the hospital’s accreditation to the Joint Advisory Group (JAG).

The original Burton Hospital opened in 1869. In 1995, Her Majesty the Queen opened the new Burton Hospital (changing its name the following year to Queen’s Hospital) to give a full complement of specialties – including a dedicated endoscopy suite. Over a decade later, the hospital was facing a critical situation as its ageing Automated Endoscope Reprocessors (AERs) were approaching the end of their working life.
