State-of-the-art theatres for Nuffield

KARL STORZ has installed three integrated OR1 operating theatres in the new and improved £30m Nuffield Health Cambridge Hospital. The new theatres provide the hospital with the latest innovations and services for endoscopic surgery, and are multi-functional and multi-discipline, making them suitable for use in all surgical specialties.

One of the theatres has also been equipped with KARL STORZ’s communications package, meaning it has full video conferencing facilities for the streaming of live surgery, both internally and externally; quad-video to enable the streaming of four separate images at one time; and telestration, a graphical teaching aid. This capability will greatly enhance and support the new hospital’s educational facilities, putting it right at the forefront of this area of technology. A key element of the OR1 is that theatres can be pre-set to each individual surgeon’s needs via the easy-to-use Realistic User Interface (RUI), creating a bespoke surgical experience and so reducing operating times.
