Speakers at the NHS Confederation annual conference debated the challenges ahead that must be addressed to create a sustainable NHS.
More than 2,500 senior leaders, decision-makers, stakeholders, partners and exhibitors from across the health and care sector recently gathered in Liverpool for the NHS Confederation annual conference and exhibition. Delegates and speakers debated the challenges ahead that must be addressed to create a sustainable NHS. LOUISE FRAMPTON reports.
NHS Confederation 2014 conference brought together senior leaders at a critical juncture for the NHS, as the country counts down to the 2015 general election. This year’s conference was themed around the NHS Confederation’s 2015 Challenge campaign (see panel), which brings into focus the scale and nature of change needed to ensure a sustainable health and care system for the future; what politicians and others must do to help make these changes possible; and what the health and care system must do to ensure it is ready and able to lead these changes on the frontline.
NHS Confederation chief executive, Rob Webster, commented that NHS reform, in the past, has been driven by a desire to avoid disaster situations, with a ‘burning platform’ of overstretched services, long waits, and financial failure.
