Rapid molecular screening

An alarming rise of carbapenem-producing Enterobacteriaceae is being noted worldwide. The pathogens are exhibiting multi-resistance to all common antibiotics leading to increased mortality rates. Guidelines issued across the UK advocate active screening and isolating high risk patients until results are available. This includes patients with recent exposure to public healthcare in countries and UK cities with endemic occurrence of carbapenemases.

Conventional detection procedures based on phenotypic resistance testing are very time consuming and subjective.

HAIN LIFESCIENCE UK’S range of products for detection of carbapenemases, ESBLs and AmpCs, aims to improve the control and prevention of antibiotic resistance in Gram-negative bacteria through molecular detection technologies. The company’s CE-IVD marked products range from a proprietary microarray system for comprehensive identification of resistance genes to Check-Direct assays for rapid screening in as fast as two hours based on real-time PCR.

With its range of products for detection of carbapenemases, ESBLs and AmpCs it aims to improve the control and prevention of antibiotic resistance in Gram-negative bacteria through combining its unique knowhow of this field with its molecular detection technologies.
