At the recent Heart Failure 2015 conference, held in Seville, Spain, experts gathered to discuss the latest strategies and research aimed at improving prevention, diagnosis and treatment of heart failure. High on the agenda included the latest insights into key risk factors – including the impact of mental health.
According to research presented at the 2nd World Congress on Acute Heart Failure, moderate to severe depression is associated with a significantly raised risk of all cause mortality in patients with heart failure. The results from OPERAHF show that risk was independent of comorbidities and severity of heart failure.
Heart Failure 2015
Heart Failure 2015 is the main annual meeting of the Heart Failure Association (HFA) of the European Society of Cardiology (ESC). The HFA aims to improve quality of life and longevity, through better prevention, diagnosis and treatment of heart failure, including the establishment of networks for its management, education and research. The ESC represents more than 80 000 cardiology professionals across Europe and the Mediterranean. Its mission is to reduce the burden of cardiovascular disease in Europe.
