From a ‘sterilisation sleeve’ designed to reduce surgical site infection, to a safer, more accurate biopsy method for detecting prostate cancer, NHS staff are being helped to translate innovative ideas into practical solutions.
As the NHS Innovation Hub for the East of England, East Midlands and North London, Health Enterprise East (HEE) aims to improve healthcare by supporting the development of innovative new products and services which meet the needs of the NHS. It delivers a broad range of services to NHS organisations, providing expert advice, funding and support to NHS innovators to translate their ideas into practice. Currently 35 NHS Trusts are HEE members, benefitting from innovation expertise.
Operating within the NHS, HEE also provides consultancy services to technology-based companies looking to access the UK market, working with clinical key opinion leaders and senior NHS managerial, commissioning and procurement staff on a daily basis.
The HEE is currently championing a wide range of innovations that could help make healthcare safer, more efficient and cost-effective. Examples of initiatives, which the innovation hub is supporting, range from a solution designed to reduce the risk of surgical site infection, a more accurate biopsy method and an interactive game aimed at reducing harm, to name just a few:
