The NHS Five Year Forward View document highlights a variety of possible future models of care for the NHS. It proposes a variety of solutions to some of the big challenges that the health and care services face today. The Clinical Services Journal reports.
The NHS Five Year Forward View has been put together by the partner organisations that deliver and oversee health and care services including NHS England, Public Health England, Monitor, Health Education England, the Care Quality Commission and the NHS Trust Development Authority. It also took advice from patient groups, clinicians and independent experts to create a document showing how the health service needs to change over the next five years if it is to close the widening gaps in the health of the population, quality of care and the funding of services.
The report explains why change is needed and what that change might look like. It also offers advice on how change could be achieved – describing various models of care that could be provided in the future. It covers areas such as disease prevention; new, flexible models of service delivery tailored to local populations and needs; integration between services; and consistent leadership across the health and care system.
