A number of senior health policy makers, clinicians and patients have spoken about the need for more patient involvement in their care and how they should be consulted in the shaping of new NHS services in the future.
A new website, www.2048group.co.uk, launched at The Future of Health Conference at London’s Olympia, features a number of ‘talking head’ videos from patients, senior policy makers and clinicians that describe how the NHS should empower patients more.
The videos address a variety of patient centred topics including the need for more patient involvement in their own care, access to medical records and increasing patient involvement in shaping NHS services in England.
The videos echo views within the recently published NHS Five Year Forward View, which highlighted the importance of empowering patients to manage their own health as well as engaging communities to provide better support locally.
Baxter Healthcare set up and facilitates The 2048 Group. General manager, Julie Kim, said: “The NHS is under significant pressure to deliver more for less in the current cost constrained environment. This, however, does create opportunities to look at how services could be delivered differently along with new technologies that are now available. Involving patients in this process is key to ensure their needs are catered for and further improvements to services can be made.”
The website also features the book of Essays in Integrated Care that was launched by the group in 2012.
