RFID system allows efficient tracking of devices

HARLAND SIMON’s entry level RF solution is providing significant savings across a number of NHS Trusts throughout the UK.

The RFID Discovery system allows users to efficiently locate medical devices using fixed or handheld readers, which seek out equipment fitted with an RFID tag. Asset location data can be uploaded to the main database, using either the local Wi-Fi or by using a USB connection to dock with a local PC workstation. Harland Simon can design a low-cost solution to work on or off a wireless network that typically requires no investment to the current infrastructure. RFID Discovery benefits hospitals through increased device utilisation, improved maintenance inspection and reduced capital expenditure. Users also report quicker and more effective auditing. Currently, RFID Discovery is tracking over 10,000 medical devices, including pumps and pressure relieving mattresses, while trials are underway to track consumable theatre supplies.
