Minimising the risk of prion transmission

With the launch of its new MetalClean solid cleaner with prion inactivation, ECOLAB’s SolidSafe system now offers an additional level of safety for both patients and users.

It is well known that routine instrument decontamination methods do not inactivate the infectious agent that can result in the transmission of human prion diseases, including CJD and vCJD. Used as part of a prion inactivating protocol in the SSD, MetalClean is said to maximise patient safety by minimising the risk of prion transmission via surgical instruments. MetalClean is suitable for both daily and prion inactivating cycles, meaning that only one product is required for automated cleaning.
