Wipes to suit all requirements

GAMA HEALTHCARE is able to offer a type of wipe to suit every requirement. Now supplied through NHS Supply Chain, the company’s range of quality, innovative and cost effective solutions are backed by proven science, as well as aftercare support.

At Infection Prevention 2013, discussion took place on: ‘how to assess the validity of manufacturer’s data regarding infection prevention and control (IPC) wet wipes and solutions’. A checklist that included the following was suggested:

Effective formula
It is important that the supplier understands and adequately explains how the formula works. What are the active compounds and what is their relationship with common bacteria? How the formula reacts with different wipe fibre compositions is of equal importance, especially when discussing solutions and sprays.

Relevant testing
It is vital that the claims made and results advertised are from tests on liquid expressed from the wipe not on solutions to be applied to the wipes.

Realistic contact times
All data should be readily available and relevant. European standardised tests are often performed in unrealistic time periods and conditions. The data should reflect achievable contact times and conditions, not just headline method and results.

Scientifically validated
The manufacturer should have an experienced and reputable microbiologist who is available to explain the importance of all aspects of the formula and relevant testing from culture preparation to neutraliser validation.

Training
Comprehensive training on the correct use and best practice for products should be made available.

Published user studies
Reputable IPC companies should be able to undertake and publish practical user results for their products (phase three testing).

Compliance
All products should comply to current product safety regulations and occupational health considerations and guidelines.

GAMA reports that it conforms to all of these requirements and offers full transparency on all testing and formula characteristics. The company outlines the following benefits of using its products:
•    Free dispensers and installation by a team of experienced engineers help to keep wipes conveniently at the point of use.
•    Free ward based infection prevention and control training by a team of experienced IPC clinical nurse trainers.
•    Free tablet based training package to support continual IPC training.
•    Free bespoke educational marketing support to promote Trust-specific best practice for all healthcare professionals and patients.
