An award-winning hospital has opened the doors to an innovative new surgical cardiac ward offering patients and their families the equivalent of ‘five star’ accommodation.
Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital’s Oak Ward is the first ward of its kind in the UK and has been designed around the hospital’s aim of providing a patient and family-centred care model. This means that families and carers can be fully involved in the care of their loved ones, providing an environment which works for them as well as the patients themselves. Among the key features included on the ward are pull-down beds for visitors to stay overnight and a dedicated family room including television, computer access, microwave and vending machines. Raj Jain, chief executive of Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital, said: “Our new ward enables patients to be supported by the people that matter most in their lives at the time they are needed the most.” LHCH scores exceptionally high on overall patient care with 100% recommending the hospital to their family and friends and 91% saying the care they received exceeded their expectations. Furthermore, 92% of staff at LHCH agree or strongly agree that they would be happy to recommend the hospital to their family and friends.
