How should those tasked with the delivery of safe, compliant endoscope decontamination services approach the new Choice Framework for local Policy and Procedures?
A one-day seminar recently provided an insight into the application of this document and the key issues and challenges that it raises. LOUISE FRAMPTON reports.
Experts recently gathered at the Think Tank, Birmingham, to discuss some of the challenges faced by endoscopy decontamination units, in view of the introduction of the Choice Framework for local Policy and Procedures (CFPP). The seminar, Improving Endoscope Decontamination: Understanding and Applying CFPP 01-06, was hosted by Getinge UK Academy and covered a range of topics – including: standards for endoscopy decontamination units, quality and data capture, microbiological validation of endoscope drying/storage cabinets and the importance of training. The seminar programme opened with a presentation by registered lead auditor, Fiona Kennedy, which provided a detailed insight into ‘standards for endoscopy decontamination units’. Through the consultancy Applied Management Systems Ltd, Fiona Kennedy provides auditing services and expert advice to hospitals and manufacturers, with the aim of helping organisations achieve the required standards. Setting the scene for the one-day seminar, she explained the implications of CFPP; how it relates to the framework of European standards and Medical Devices Directive (MDD); and raised some key concerns over the new approach.
