Beta-blocker benefits examined

A study has shown beta-blockers are not associated with a lower risk of heart attacks or stroke in certain patients.

Researchers looked at data from more than 44,000 people who were at high risk of coronary heart disease, had coronary heart disease, or had suffered a heart attack. Beta-blocker use was not associated with a lower number of heart attacks and strokes across these groups. The research was published in the Journal of the American Medical Association.
