Keyboard helps reduce cross infection of HCAIs

ESTERLINE’s Medigenic infection control keyboard and mouse, designed by leading lights of the NHS, aims to reduce MRSA and other HCAI infections, by up to 10% within acute hospitals.

The increasing need for computer keyboards by the bedside, driven by new electronic patient record infrastructure, increases the risk of cross contamination from keyboard to patient. Traditional raised-key keyboards potentially harbour MRSA DNA and other multi-resistant organisms. To combat this risk, the Medigenic features a 100% flat surface for easy sanitisation within seconds, while retaining touch-typing usability with unique 3D legends. A combined cleaning alert system prompts clinicians for twice daily cleaning. Clinical studies have shown that the Medigenic alert system helped improve hand hygiene compliance, but also reduced overall bacterial contamination by 71%. Infection Control technologist APCCONTECH distributes Medigenic alongside other medical devices recommended for healthcare environments.
